fall

it rained all weekend.

i won’t lie.  i loved every minute of it. i loved waking up early, putzing and snacking and then deciding to curl back under the dr.’s arm until late afternoon.  i loved cocooning in the poof chair with all of my necessary accoutrements. book, phone, ipod.  i loved taking a stroll in the rain to grab a chai and  to buy flour and yeast.  i baked.  we cooked.  orange cranberry pecan bread.  a crusty loaf of white in the cast iron dutch oven.  impromptu sauces.  roasted brussels sprouts and shallots. rice noodles. hot pots. nabe.  matsutake mushrooms.  the doctor found the musrhooms at BiRite and i instantly fell in love with their piney aroma.  i read articles on them. i researched recipes. i mourned their short season.  we’ve got maybe 2 months left if we’re lucky.

i worked hard last week.  deadlines, budgets and gym.  i averaged about 5 hours of sleep a night.  come Friday i was beat. when the dr. asked me what i wanted to do for the weekend i said nothing and it felt good to do nothing.

i’m excited for hot beverages and scarves but even more excited for a train ride north next month to visit friends for thanksgiving.  i can’t stop thinking about cozy time in our own little roomette on the train.  looking forward to being somewhere that smells like trees and baking loaves upon loaves of bread.
